KENNY WAX
Since its foundation in 1995 by Kenny Wax, the company has firmly established itself as a leading Producer and General Manager in the West End and regionally. Kenny is President of the Society of London Theatre, and is regularly featured in The Stage newspaper’s 100 most influential industry members.
When Kenny and co-producer Mark Bentley asked Mischief Theatre to redraft their one hour play into a full length entertainment, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG became one of the surprise hits of 2014. The show was toured to popular acclaim before transferring to the Duchess Theatre, where it has played for two outstanding years, winning the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015. In addition to its continuing success in the West End, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, has taken New York audiences by storm since opening on Broadway in 2017 with the original cast; winning the broadway.com Audience Choice Award, the Theatre Fans’ Choice Award and the Tony award for Best Set.
Mischief Theatre’s second show, PETER PAN GOES WRONG opened at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in November 2014. It premiered in the West End at the Apollo Theatre for hugely successful 2015 Christmas run, followed by a disastrous return in autumn 2016. A Christmas Special, television adaptation starring David Suchet aired on New Year’s Eve for BBC One. THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY, Mischief’s third production with the company opened to five star reviews at the Criterion Theatre in April 2016, and looks set to make the theatre its home for a long time to come. The Comedy About A Bank Robbery toured the UK in 2018/2019.
Kenny Wax is also the producer of celebrated new musical SIX by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. The production opened at the Arts Theatre in London in September 2018 where it performs to full houses every night. SIX was nominated for Best New Musical at the 2019 Laurence Olivier Awards, and opens on Broadway and in Australia in 2020.
In 2011, the company produced the world premiere of a new musical adaptation of the 1935 classic film TOP HAT, which won the 2012 Evening Standard award for ‘Best Night Out’. From its seven nominations in 2013, TOP HAT picked up three Olivier Awards, including the coveted award for ‘Best New Musical’. The production toured the UK and internationally, packing out venues across the globe.
Kenny Wax Family Entertanment Ltd. is one of the most prolific providers of family entertainment in the country. Its collaborations with Tall Stories, such as THE GRUFFALO, THE GRUFFALO’S CHILD and the Olivier Award nominated ROOM ON THE BROOM have continued to delight families up and down the country, on tour and in the West End. Sally Cookson’s critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson’s HETTY FEATHER was nominated for an Olivier award, and played for two seasons in the West End, as well as touring the UK. The production crossed the Atlantic in June 2016, playing to Florida’s Asolo Repertory Theatre.
On top of the touring success of THE TIGER WHO CAME TO TEA, WE’RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT and WHAT THE LADYBIRD HEARD our production of MR POPPER’S PENGUINS premiered last year and traveled to the New Victory Theatre, New York in October 2016.
